When I start up my computer, Windows Media Player automatically starts and
opens which slows down the start up time. How can I stop the program from
opening automatically?

Check the startup folder if you have any media file or wmplayer in startup
folder.
Start menu > All Programs > Startup.
If you have delete that if you don't want it.
And check msconfig [Start > Run > msconfig ] > Startup tab
