How does Member server talk to DC

Greetings-

I heard you can put E2K on a member server...How does the member server
communicate with the DC to authenticate password info and stuff like that?

In the instance that the member server is a print server...How does it
communicate with the DC (AD) to allow printers to be published,pruned, etc.?

It chats through a secure channel established with the domain controller or in other cases through kerberos protocol.
Just depends on specifically what the member server is trying to do.
