How does an Office 'repair' affect servicepacks an hotfixes?

Office Environment: W2k Pro with Office Xp (SP3 and all further hotfixes).

After uninstalling Norton an installing CA etrust Antivirus 2005 I did an
Office 'repair' which asked for the Installation CD in order to copy files.

Question: Will such a repair retain updates performed by servicepacks and
hotfixes previously applied, or will I get a potential mix of versions?

I am trying to resolve "Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) :
'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP)
server". Possibly caused by CA eTrust.
According to MS KB (827349) such a problem was already fixed in SP3.

TIA

The repair should take the service packs into account.

Thanks!

Would be good though if it showed up somewhere what was changed, though I
haven't found it.

Leads me to another question though:

If I store my data file (.pst) on a seperate partition to the Windows (and
program files) partition and then perform a restore (ghost image) of the
windows partition, will Outlook then work reliably provided my accounts,
rules and .pst files are resolvable (possibly after manual edit) ?

Hmmm, the best I can say at the moment is that it might work if you're
careful
