How do I update Office 2000 Premier to SR-1 level

Dear Sir/Madam,

According to Microsoft express update service, the only important
update my pc needs, at the moment, is Windows Internet Explorer 7.0
for my Windows XP. Unfortunately, I do not want this, as it affects my
computer.

However, according to Trend Micro Housecall, I need updates for my
Microsoft Office 2000 premium.

2 Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-028
RTF document linked to template can run macros without warning
Originally posted: May 21, 2001

Summary
Who should read this bulletin:
Customers using Microsoft® Word for Windows or Microsoft Word for the
Mac
Impact of vulnerability:
Run macros without warning
Recommendation:
Customers using affected versions of Word should apply the patch
immediately.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Word 2000
Both needed the same download Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3)

When I tried to download Office 2000 Update: Service Pack 3 (SP3), my
computer could not install it. I received a message stating, “ The
expected version of the product was not found on your system.”
Because I regularly update Windows XP, has Trend Micro Housecall got it
wrong?

To cut a long story short, I uninstalled and re-installed Office 2000
using custom selecting to install.

I went back to Office SR-1/SR-1a download again, but still Office SR-1
would not update to SR-1a.It stated:
"Error 1328. Error applying patch to file.
c:\Config.Msi\PT1BB.tmp.
It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be
modified by this patch. For more information contact your patch
vendor."

Then it was suggested that I could not install Office SR-1/SR-1a,
because Office 2000 did not have SR-1? if so how do I find and install
this download?

I am totally confused and need sensible , understandable help. An
exasperated pc illiterate.

Just go to officeupdates.microsoft.com and run the option to determine what
Office updates you need.
It will tell you all the critical/support patches for Office 2000. I use it
all the time.

but that did not work.

I have spent hours working through the various solutions offered.
My wife and kids sick of me hogging the computer.

tx for your advice.

Do the two you needed show in the list? You state that you cannot download.
Do you get an error?
Are they there as individual downloads?

Can you tell me what the KP##### it is?

Mad monket says Trend Micro are probably right.

Perhaps my version of Office 20000 premium will not upgrade.

My wife is ready to throttle me tx for all your help, it is
appreciated.

Trend Micro is wrong. I have Office 2000 Premium and had no problem when
upgrading to Service Pack 3.

Thre should be a log file in your C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Local
Settings\Temp folder that should indicate why the patch is not working.

Are you trying to download/install all at the same time? Try downloading
and running it from your download folder.
That way you can run it with extended debugging and monitor it's execution.
Plus, you won't be hogging the network. Once you download the file, your
wife and kids can have the system ... giving 'em 5 minutes every now and
then really seems to placate the masses!

I had no problems with installing Service Pack 3. You can run the package
with either FileMon or RegMon on (www.sysinternals.com freeware apps that
everyone uses to debug MS problems). While you run the update you can
monitor what is going on and see exactly what is being checked that
determines what is causing the failure.
