How does a TCP port work?

When i´m trying to use Azureus on my computer it says there is a; NAT error,
connection refused... It wants me to type in a incoming TCP port, (the
standard is 6881) but it dosent work. Is there anywere i can find my TPC?
please help!
 
Read your router and firewall documentation, you need to open the port
there.
