I am a Network Engineering Student in Community college. I
am trying to slipstream service pack 4 into my
installation files on the distro point. You are supposed
to use update.exe and a couple of switches. I understand
that part but where do you get update.exe? It is
installed as temporary file when you run the update, but
then it is removed when the installation is completed. If
I try to stop the installation the app deletes all the
temp files. Is there somwhere to get just the update.exe?

1. Download the Network install of SP4 from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/default.asp

2. Extract SP4 into a folder (example C:\SP4) by running: W2KSP4_EN.EXE /x
from a command line.

3. Copy the I386 folder from a CD to a folder on you hard disk. (example:
C:\Win2k\I386)

4. Go to the SP4\Update folder and run UPDATE.EXE -S:C:\Win2k

5. Viola! Your I386 folder will be automatically slipstreamed.

I understand
that part but where do you get update.exe?

Almost every MS package supports the -x switch to expand the files.

Ciao, Walter
