Hi

Im using WINXP with ntfs, is it true the only to use Ghost
backup software is from DOS?

Thanks for any replies

Ghost will reboot your system and image and restore. you don't need to
worry about it.

You can start Ghost from Windows or Dos. You can restore
a image that you made with Ghost in Windows if Windows
starts or otherwise from Dos.

Please let me know if this is successful and what version of Ghost you are
using. I have never had a problem using
Ghost on a Win 98 or Fat file system but have not had any success on XP NTFS
drive.

I tried Drive Copy and it barly works I must do a file system restore after
using that program.

Thanks

If you run Ghost off a DOS floppy then it will recognize NTFS partitions but
with some restrictions. While you can create and image of an NTFS partition
you can't save it as a file to another NTFS partition. However you can do a
Drive to Drive copy or Partition to Partition copy from NTFS as Source to
NTFS as Destination. You can save an image file to a FAT formatted partition
or to a removable device like a tape drive or CD-Writer.

I have been using enterprise 6.5 will that work? Is there any special
settings I need to set?.

Thanks

I've had some problems with Ghost 6.5 and NTFS 5 that XP uses. I just got
Ghost 7.5 the latest Enterprise version and have had no problem with XP's
NTFS.

There are problems with earlier versions of Ghost working with XP's upgraded
NTFS that includes 6.5. Ghost 2003 or Ghost 7.5 work with XP.

Thanks all. I will let my friends with XP know the answer. I my self will
probably get Ghost 2003 when I finally get an XP machine.

I just don't need XP yet.

Will probably get a new computer with the next major OS if I can hang on to
98 that long.

Have a good day.
