Ghost 2003 Boot Disk Problem...

Hi everybody,

I have used Norton Ghost 2003 for years with no problems on my machine
(I have two Samsung SpinPoint HDs, taken from the box from my
supplier, on removable trays and everynight I used to shut off the
machine, insert the second HD (which is otherwise in a drawer) and the
floppy and backup the first HD, using the -ID and -FSI switches,
because I also have a Linux partition...)

One day, my MB died and fortunately my supplier had the exact same one
in the store (ASUS P4P8X), so to avoid having to format everything
because of a different chipset...

Everything works fine as far as the computer is concerned, except for
the Ghost floppy... I have tried the old one, made a new one from
Ghost in Windows using PC-DOS and one using MS-DOS: they all do the
exact same thing:

the computer boots off the floppy, load the OS, starts Ghost and the
complete screen (blu background, gray window, "norton ghost 2003" on
the title bar) appears, even the mouse hourglass appears, but no
menu... the hourglass is still and if I press any key three or four
times the system beeps until reset is pressed...

The only thing I can think of is that my supplier has upgraded the MB
BIOS and the new one is somewhat incompatible with Ghost...

I even tried (fortunately on my second HD acting as first) to run
Ghost interactively: same behauvior, plus it won't boot back into
windows and both gdisk and ghreboot hang the machine...

So, my question is: is there a workaround for Ghost 2003? Should I
upgrade to Ghost 12? Should I go with Acronis True Image?

You can just perform a repair installation if you change motherboards (which
usually is enough to severely hurt the HAL.) No need to wipe out
everything.

You should contact support (or look on their web page, through their faqs,
etc) for the product giving you trouble. I use Ghost a LOT and have not
seen that issue. Updated BIOS or not. You can try the other programs
(imaging) if you desire. I think TrueImage has a 15 day trial... Symantec
probably has a trial version too. BootItNG definitely does.
