How do you allow autotext entries to be inserted in the native formatting of

a doucment?

You use styles. AutoText will always match the style. Although this is a
different issue, the principles explained in this link apply as well:

Autotexts are saved under the list entry that reflects the paragraph style
at the time they were recorded. Entries that are complete paragraphs (or
more than one paragraph) will store the style information. Entries that are
less than a complete paragraph, provided they do not include the paragraph
mark at the end of the said paragraph will adopt the formatting of the
paragraph they are inserted into.
