I need to know if there is a way to search a document (over 100 pages long -
it's a name directory) for one specific word. Anyone know?

Have you tried using Edit | Find (Ctrl+F)?

As Suzanne pointed out, CRTL + F will bring up a find box; type in the word
you're looking for. There's another tab that allows you to replace that word
with another one (helpful if you've misspelled something throughout a
document and want to correct them all).

CRTL + F also works on most web pages. If you do an Internet search for
something and click on a link, but that page is full of text and you can't
easily find what you're looking for -- do CTRL + F and it will take you right
to the word. If that's the wrong reference, click "Next" and it will take you
to the next use of the word.
