How do you put in surnames such as McGinn with a capital G?

Doesn't happen here. What version of Word are you using? You can always
Ctrl+Z to undo the "correction."

Hi Curious-

Word doesn't change that unless someone has 'taught' it to. It sounds like
it has been added to AutoCorrect.

The next time it happens move your mouse pointer the bottom of the word and
look for the little SmartTag to appear. Click it and choose the option to
'Stop automatically correcting...', or (if you don't want to wait) you can go
to Tools>AutoCorrect Options--AutoCorrrect page & locate the entry in the
list. Click to select it then click the Delete button.

If that isn't the answer, it may have been added to the Dictionary. Post
back if that is the case.
