How do you put a check in a checkbox in Word

If you have checkboxes in a Word document (such as the FAX template on the
Office Template website), how does a user change the unchecked box to a
checked box before printing the FAX?

Double-click on the check box to change it from unchecked to checked or
vice-versa.

By double-clicking on it. There are a number of ways to create and use
clickable checkboxes in documents / templates. Some require protected or
locked forms, others do not. Take a look at the Checkbox template available
at http://www.addbalance.com/word/download.htm#CheckboxAddIn for an
exploration of these. This also gives instructions to change the
double-click activation of the fax checkbox to a single click.
