how do you pause a show for discussion

I have tired to pause the slide presentation but it goes back to the start.
How can you pause on a slide and then resume once the discussion is over?

Do you mean to pause and still have the screen information in view? Or, to
pause and view a blank screen while the discussion is going on?

If you just want to blank the screen

Press B will give a Black screen and W a white screen (gives a bit of light!)

Press again to resume
