How do you get "Page 1" to appear behind cells in Excel?

How do you get page numbers to appear like "Page 1" in gray behind the cells
(or text) in Excel?
 
if i understand you correctly....

do you want to view it or print it? the gray background numbers show up by
default in Page Break Preview (but they don't print). View>Page Break
Preview.
