How do you force Win XP to send an EAPOL start packet?

We use 802.1x on a wired network. When authentication fails there seems to be
no other way to start a new authentication attempt other than to disconnect
the Ethernet cable and immediately reconnect it. I am looking for a software
way to send an EAPOL Start Packet to the the Ethernet switch. It would be
nice if the Repair button on the Local Area Connection would first send an
EAPOL Start Packet to reauthenticate on the network, then do its other
things. Does anyone know to reauthenticate onto a wired 802.1x network using
just software?

Thanks for any help you can give.
