how do you export IAF in outlook

S

Shaffer

Ok I am sure this question has been asked a million times already, but a
quick scan of past posts does not divulge the answer to me.

I am not a fan of Outlook and wouldn't use it but have a client that insists
on using it therefore I need to be able to answer his questions about it.

My question is simply this, how do I export internet account settings
....just like in OE were you go to accounts | accounts | tools | export .....

well in Outlook I know that I can import accounts OK but how do I export,
there is no export option to a straight IAF file that I can find.

Also very annoying, when you first fire it up it gives you the standard
import from other programs like OE, it imports from OE and windows mail fine
but will not carry the password over. Can this be changed?

It seems to me that both the above mentioned issues is security features
about Outlook for like more business use of the program........would that be
a correct assumption..they intentionally made it hard to export account
settings so that someone cant just walk up to a machine and walk away with
the email account setting in a few seconds.

thansk for any help here,

OK, I didn't mean to offend you.......I am just extremely frustrated....it
seems retarded to not have a simple feature to export account settings......
and then another feature that imports account settings but shy the
password...(I don't have my password, I exported the admin created account
into an IAF from my work computer to bring home and re-import so I could
work at home)

I mean what's the point...if I save the account settings I want to save the
password with it. Thats kinda a given don't you think????.....thus the
thought on my part that the people who designed it should have seen this and
thus my frustration leading to the rude comment.

To say the program is bloated is my opinion (that I am entitled to) and not
a rude comment, (an opinion shared by many), the statement of frustration in
using it on my part is "fact", not a rude comment, and the comment about it
being crap was just my frustration because I cant get it to do what I need,
so for that comment only, do I owe the apology.

You cant tell me you have never been guilty of doing the same at some point
in your life can you....you never had windows crash or BSOD on you right in
the middle of something very important with you not having a few choice
words for the machine, the OS, and its makers? come on really.......

Anyhow again my apologies to anyone who took offense to my post.

Can you please tell me how to initiate this feature...I have looked at
everything including the help db and see that I can save folders and
contacts ( to be expected) but not a wizard to export the set up email
accounts
Thank you for your help

Then there is no wizard or export feature for accounts

There are I believe third party tools that can read the acount info stored
in the reigistry, whether they can export / import this info I couldnt say

Passwords should NEVER be exportable. What a colossal security breach that
would be.

I found a program that seems to do a nice job...one click back of all
aspects of OL........14 day free trial and then only something like 30 bucks
to buy. I wont sat the name because I am not a spammer and do not want to be
labeled one, but anyone interested could just Google it. I used the search
string "back up accounts in outlook" and found a few different products.

Now why didn't Microsoft just build this feature into the program?

thanks to all those who took the time to reply to my post(s), party on....
