How do you enter data into a check box form field?

I was emailed a form to complete that has shaded boxes. It appears that I
should be able to enter data within the box and place check marks within some
of the boxes. I can not seem to get inside the box to enter a checkmark or
text. How do I do this?

You can click it with the mouse or, if you tab to it, use Backspace to
change from unchecked to checked and vice versa.

If the document is a Word form. Is it actually protected? Sometimes -
especially forms used between Word 2003 and 2007 - the protection becomes
turned off. Protect it again from the forms toolbar (or in Word 2007 from
the developer button on the ribbon - protect for forms).
