I am trying to embed a music file into a pp presentation. I tried going to
options and linking files over 50MB. This doesn't seem to work. What can I
do?

Only music in wav format can be embedded.
If you are using other format, convert the music into wav format using sound
convertor.

Music over 50MB seems to be way too large. If you have music over 50MB, try
compressing it by reducing the quality instead.

To clarify one point: changing the "Embed sounds" value after inserting the
sound won't help. You need to set the value, THEN insert the sound in order
for it to link.

As others have mentioned, the sound must also be in WAV format.
