I am developing an emergency plan in an electronic version. That will be
projected on a large screen in an emergency operations center. Indexing and
the ability to find items is critical. the document will be 1500 pages.

I would like to color code the file folders to corrispond with specific
functional areas of the Emergency Operations Center.

Is it possible to change the display color of individual file folders? If so
how can this be accomplished?

This has absolutely nothing to do with Word... it's an operating system
issue - but to point you in one direction:

Windows XP allows you to do even better. In a Windows Explorere window,
right-click a folder, select Properties, then clik the Customize tab & have
a ball! you can decorate each folder with a picture or an icon that is more
easily interpretted than color-coding.

Other options are probably available as well.
