How do you change admisistrator settings when there isn't an admistrator with settings?

We have just bought a laptop that came with Norton's Anti Virus 2003 pre
installed. Since I also had with my PC Norton's Internet Security I
installed it as well. I have been having difficulty in getting the new
laptop to dial up our ISP & get it's email. My ISP informs me that the
problem is probably a wrongly configured firewall.

I go to the Norton's Internet Security settings & get a warning that several
of the options available are disabled. When I try to change the settings it
says that this can only be done by the system administrator when using their
password. . Since I am the only person who ever touches either machine I
know with certainty that there is no password on either machine. When I try
to uninstall then reinstall it won't let be uninstall since once again this
can only be done by the administrator.

Where does one go from here?

Thanks in advance

I followed your suggestion from below. I go the box to change the password
& it wanted a new password one so I gave it one which it accepted. But
having done this the only option I was given was to uninstall the program
which I eventually had to do.

I then reinstalled the program, again without a password & got the program
installed. But I was just back where I started. When I clicked the programs
options it once again said that some of the security options were disabled &
when I went to set them I again got told that this can only be done my the
administrator. What now?
