How do you automatically retain only the most recent .tmp file in

G

When working in a MS Word file that is saved to my desktop, it is annoying to
have, say, 20 .tmp files appear on my desktop from saving the MS Word file 20
times while working on it over the course of a few hours. I know it is
possible to make MS Word retain only the most recent .tmp file, or, perhaps
only display this most recent .tmp file - does anyone know how to make MS
Word do either of these? I am using Microsoft Office Word 2003.

Many thanks - Joel

DON'T store documents on the desktop and work on them there. For one
thing, it's a dangerous place, where an errant mouse click could trash
your document. More relevant to your complaint, if your document isn't
on the desktop, then the temp files won't be there either, so you
won't be annoyed by looking at them. It's that simple!

Please read http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632, "How Word for
Windows Uses Temporary Files", so you'll have some idea of what you're
talking about. Pay special attention to the section "When and Where
Word Creates Temporary Files", including the ones that say "Same
Directory as the Saved File".

If Word leaves temp files behind after you've closed the program (and
Outlook, if Word is your email editor), see
