How do you activate the "Look Up" feature in Outlook 2003

I’m running Outlook 2003 with SP-1 (under Windows XP Pro/with SP-2) and have
a problem with the LOOK UP feature.

The capability to <Right Click> on any word, in an outgoing e-mail message
and then <Look Up> the word in a research source has gone away. While “Look
Up†still appears in the drop down menu, it’s grayed-out during the
composition of outgoing messages. It is; however, fully available whenever
viewing received messages. Also, “Look Up†works okay in all the other MS
Office applications (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.)!

BTW, the Outlook “Tools†menu doesn’t display a “Research†tab (MS says
there should be one), so perhaps a basic setting is configured incorrectly.
I'm using Outlook (not Word) to compose outgoing messages.

Anyone know how can I correct the settings to allow “Look Up†to be used
while composing messages?

You'll need to switch to Word to use lookup when composing.

Are you using smart menus? If so, disable them or press F1 and select
Research from the Help menu bar.

Diane:

UR a life saver! I dumped smart menus and returned to using Word to edit
(and compose) e-mail messages and all is well. Thank you for the assistance.
