How do I use tabs in Outlook HTML messsages?

When I press the Tab key on consecutive lines of my message I am not getting
consistent results so the terms will line up underneath one another.

Which version of Outlook are you using?
If Outlook 2003 or previous; do you use Word or Outlook as the email editor?

That's what happens with proportional fonts. Are you using a leading tab on
each line? Or are these tabs that are positioned after some proportionally
spaced font? Did you change to using a non-proportional font (Courier New)
or switch from HTML to plain text for formatting your message?

I am using Windows XP Pro SP3, Outlook 2003 (11.8313.8221) SP3

Tools > Options > Mail Format tab
Compose in this message format: HTML
Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages is checked.

I’m trying to do this now, the same as I tried on 3/18/2010, but
unfortunately(?!) I am having success in aligning terms under one another. I
have run into this alignment problem before and chose to inquire about it now.

I am also reviewing the e-mail I sent that had the issue. I seem to
remember using a font like System, 16 pt. However, when I clicked on Forward
from my Sent Items folder the font becomes different and noticeably smaller.
The field at the top of the Outlook screen tell me that it is WT12 font.
