how do I use repair function in XP?

I had a counterfeit xp pro disk installed (which I found
out when I tried to update to service pack 1). Now, I
have an authentic xp pro FULL version disk. I don't think
I should RE-install the whole thing on top of the
counterfeit installation. Not sure what to do.

You need to perform a Repair Installation using the new CD and Product
Key:

Alter at least one digit of the data at in the Value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents\OOBETimer

close regedit and restart windows, then run the activation dialog, accepting the 'phone in' option. Put in a new Product Key, and quit the activation. Run activation again, and let it activate online.
