I'm using Windows XP and outlook 2000 but need to set up an "out of office
assistant" for a holiday I'm planning to take. What's the best way to get
this facility? I work independently and my PC is not networked.

This feature is not available to POP3/IMAP users. You could use the rules
wizard to emulate the out of office feature, but it would require you
leaving your PC on with Outlook running to make what you want happen.

thanks that's really helpful. I thought I would have to buy an upgrade.

While you can not do the out of office from Outlook, you can check your
webmail provided by your ISP. Most of them will allow you to have an out of
office type of response.

Hi Lucy,

before I would spent money for an "Out of office assistent, I would check
the ideas of Neil and neo. Most of the providers support an "Out of office
assistent", which is the best solution (I think) and if not you could create
a rule in Outlook.
