How do I unlock the Alt key?

I'm not sure how it's happend - but whenever I click on a word I've typed,
the Research window opens, and I can't click on any of the drop down tool
bars.
I think my Alt button is 'on'. How can I release it? and how did I do it so
I can avoid doing it again!!
