how do I underscore in a web mail address

someone gave me thier e-mail address over the phone and they said a portion
of it was underscored. How do I underscore a portion of the e-mail address
I do not have windows toolbar in my e-mail. Thank you.
 
Underscore is a character on your keyboard. Hold down the shift key and then
hit the hyphen. If you look at my email addres it is jl_paules. That's an
underscore between the L and the P.
 
Underscoring is simply hitting the shift button and the minus sugn next to
the number 0 for example (e-mail address removed) The "underscore" is between john
an doe
 
You've misunderstood them. Email addresses do not contain formatting. They
probably meant that the address included an underscore character, commonly
used where, in normal writing, there would be a space.
