How do I turn this off??

When I first log on to my computer (WinXP SP3), I get a window that
comes up on my desktop that says it's the Window's Genuine Advantage
Notification. I can click continue to see if my Windows XP is
genuine, and if it's not, I can get help on how to get updates, etc.
Or I can cancel, which I do.

Anyway.....I already KNOW my XP is genuine. How do I turn OFF this
annoying window popup?

Thanks!

If you know it - why not let it run and see for itself it is? Maybe if you
let it verify it is genuine, it sees it is genuine, it will stop prompting
you to verify.

In other words - if you have nothing to worry about - why are you worrying
about it?

As he said, it's "annoying"; that's why.

OP: YOU may know it's legit, but MS may not, so let it complete once.
That should stop it from popping up.

Or, if you've already done that, maybe try one more time just for good
measure. If the message is still there after it passes and you do a
Restart, then begin troubleshooting.

Shenan is correct. If you let it verify your OS on it's on, it should stop.
As to why you won't??? Well that's a whole different can of worms... ;)

It's only annoying because they are making it annoying. If they let it run,
not hit cancel, and they are legit (as they know they are (their words)) -
then it is no longer annoying.

For sure! It also seems like the logical first thing to do, especially
based on the wording of the message IIRC. Logic must be like gravity;
it varies with the locale sometimes <g>.

The reason I don't want to let it run is that it INSTALLS a program on
my computer that sends info about my computer to Microsoft now and
then. I don't want that. Maybe it's a conrol thing. LOL!

But thanks everyone for your comments/suggestions! :)

It periodically checks that the OS is still genuine. It does not transmit
name, rank and serial number..

It may also check for updates unless that's been turned off.
