How do I turn off the super duper scroll bar?

I want to turn off the miniature scroll bar that sends me whirling through my
pages. It pops up all over the place and before I know it I'm 20 pages away
from where I should be. How can I get rid of it for good?

Is this something you got by perhaps pressing or double-clicking the scroll
button on your mouse? I don't know of anything such as you describe in Word
itself.

I don't think so. It pops up on every word doc, new or old. All I do is move
the arrow cursor around the screen and this small rectangular box will show
up, even in the middle of the page and wham! My doc scrolls at lightning
speed for pages before I can remove my finger from the mouse pad. It's
driving me crazy!

Okay, the phrasing "remove my finger from the mouse pad" suggests that
you're using a touchpad on a laptop? Very likely this is something in your
touchpad settings, then. Check Windows Control Panel | Mouse (probably) to
see if there's anything there that you may need to disable. I do get
something like this if I click the scroll button on my mouse.

I think I may have found the culprit. It's called virtual scrolling, I
think. I turned it off. If that doesn't fix the problem I'll be back! And
yes, I use a laptop.
Thanks for the help.
