How do I turn off the display of grammar errors only in footers?

I am a student. I write essays. I like Word's grammar check feature that notes gramatical erorrs with a wavy green underline. I use footnotes for references in my papers. The grammar checker always flags citations in my footnotes. This is an annoyance. How do I turn off the grammar checker only for footnotes and not for the body of my document?

If you're willing to forgo spelling corrections as well, you could modify
the Footnote Text style to turn off proofing. Format | Style: Footnote Text
| Modify | Format: Language: "(no proofing)" (Word 97 and earlier) or "Do
not check spelling or grammar" (Word 2000 and above).
