How do I turn off the computer automatically when logging off?

Hi,

I upgraded from Win98 to Win XP Home. With Win98, when I shut down my PC,
the PC automatically turned off. However, after the upgrade to XP, when I
shut down, I get the, 'It is is now safe to turn off your computer' screen
and I have to manually turn off the PC.

Does anyone know how to enable turn off automatically?

Try this--In Power Options, change the setting under "When I press the power
button" that's on the Advanced tab. Change it to Standby. Check your computer
maker's web site for instructions on changing the setting in the bios for
your model. Make sure you did a clean installation and not an upgrade over
W98 or you will have problems.

Quite common in older 98 machines that are not ACPI compliant but utilize
the older APM standard. Open Control Panel> Power Options. If there is an
APM tab, click on it and mark the change to enable APM.
