How do I turn off compressed folders?

If I go to a directory that has many zip files XP treats them as directories and stalls while it is trying to display them all. I just want to turn off the compressed folder so XP does nothing to zip files. If I want to open zip files I want to do it and not have them come up as directories

Can someone help

Changing the default app that would open those zip files could solve your
problem. Try checkin' it under Folder options. Notice that you should
install a 3rd part. software that could handle those files
