No matter how I set my default font all my printing comes out printed in
bold. The Print Preview shows the regular font.

Hi MPKinney,

This is probably due to a printer setting or an erroneous printer driver. Have you checked your printer manual, and for updated
driver's from the manufacturer's website?

Yes. Automatic update says I'm good. I'm rechecking printer settings.

Hi MPKinney,

Windows 'Automatic update' only works with updates available from Microsoft- not with updates from 3rd parties.

I uninstalled and reinstalled my HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-One with updated
drivers and software. I repaired and then uninstalled and reinstalled MS
Office (the docs were generated in Word) and installed all updates. No change.

Hi MPKinney,

Uninstalling & reinstalling MS Office is unlikely to fix anything that repairing doesn't. What is the printout like from other apps
(eg Excel, especially if you copy a portion of the Word text & paste it into Excel)? If the same problem exhibits when printing
from other apps, it's unlikely to be a Word issue.

Text copied from Word and pasted into Excel also prints in bold. Evidently
it's not a Word problem. Thanks for your help.

Today while checking the settings in Word Formatting and Styles I noticed
that the font in the preview pane was in bold even though the bold button was
not activated. When I clicked on the bold button and clicked it back off the
font in the preview pane returned to regular, but a test printing was still
all in bold. Does this shed any light on the problem?
Thanks,
Michael

Macropod and Simon,
At the advice of HP I installed alternate drivers. This seems to have solved
the problem. However, this morning I took my test page, via flash drive, to
another computer and printed it there. The formatting problem was still there
and more(all italics), so I'm a little baffled about how the driver change
worked.
I'll work with the computer and printer in this state for a week and if the
fix sticks, I'll get back to you to let you know.
Thank-you both sincerely for all of your efforts on my part.
