How do I stop Wndows installer from launching?

Running XP SP2

How do I stop windows installer window from launching and trying to install
an application I do not want installed? Currently, I have Office 2000
installed. However, when I try to open e-mail from within IE7, the window
installer launches and trys to install Office 2003.

Thanks.
 
There is a Windows Installer Cleanup Utility available from the Microsoft
site. Worth a try anyway.
