how do i stop synchronization in Outlook2003 on a POP3 account ?

Every time I connect synchonization occurs & slows down my incomimg email
even though I'm on Broadband. I didn't set this up myself, it just started
happening.
 
A synchronisation is nothing more than sending/receiving your email. If you
have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook disable this integration
and see if it speed things up.
