How do I stop outlook 2003 Overloading when closing

Outlook 2003 has started overloading the system when closing (system
crashed). I suspect the problem might have been a large .pst file, but i
have reduced the size and it still crashes...help?
 
This is not something *any* application should/could do. Can you check
the Event Viewer if there are any information about what's causing the
crash?

Also, is your system free of malware?
