how do i stop M Office synchronising folders when i send e-mail

When i try to send e-mail the outlook icon changes and M office starts to
synchronise folders. This makes the e-mail sending process hang. How can
this be stopped

A synch means a send/receive; sure you don't want to disable that. If you
are using a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook disable this
integration and try again.
