How do I STOP excel from making a Backup"filename".XLK file

New member. Hi Group.
I have an opposite problem to most people with regard to backups. I
constantly access hundreds of excel files and there is a "local"
backup of every file next to the real one. The files have to be kept
in their own seperate directory. One file per directory.
Here's my problem. Server space. I just did a search for all ".XLK"
files on the server and deleted them all. There were 845 files
totaling .99 Gig. I have all autorecover options turned off under
"OPTIONS" "SAVE". Can anyone help?

In xl2003, you can use:
File|SaveAs|Tools|General Options
and check/uncheck that "Always create backup" box.

This is a workbook by workbook setting (nothing to do with autorecovery).
