How do I stop confirm deletion of highlighted text

Each time I try to delete highlighted text it prompts me to confirm deletion
by pressing "Y". Previously I did not have to do this. How do I turn this
off

In Tools > Options > General, uncheck both options that mention WordPerfect.

I have done this, but how do you get the options to stay unchecked? The next
time I open Word they are checked again. i have tried saving the uncheck
choices in Normal.dot but that doesn't correct the problem, it keeps coming
back.

for deleting the Word Data key in the Registry, which *may* be the problem.
Equally likely is that you have a poorly written add-in that is changing
your Options settings at startup.
