How do I splti cells?

I am trying to split 1 cell down into 2 or more cells but cant remember how
to do it.

have your tried text to columns
on the menu bar....
data>text to column>follow the wizard.

You can merge 2 or more cells into one (select the cells to merge and right
click to bring up a menu with the option) and the same menu has an option to
unmerge (ie return the double cell into 2 single ones), but I do not think
you can split a single cell that has not been previously merged.
 
If you actually want an additional empty cell, click the location, then
Insert, Cells
