How do I show first lines in Presenter View?

I've inherited some powerpoint presentations, and when in presenter view,
some show the first line of text above the thumbnail so it's easier to jump
back and forth between slides. Others do not and I have to try to read the
text on the thumbnail itself. What is the trick for turning this on and off?
Thanks.

It's showing you the slide title; that is, the text typed into the slide's
title placeholder ... one of those "Click Here" thingies that people sometimes
get irritated with and delete as they've probably done in your case. ;-)

If you look at Outline view, you'll see that the same slides have title text
next to the slide icon too.

For those that don't, type the title text you want next to the slide icon.
It'll probably appear on the slide when you do. Either use that as the slide
title and delete whatever looks like the slide title already, or just drag the
new title off the slide.
