Andy

I have an IBM computer running Windows 2000 Professional
edition and recently bought a DELL laptop running Windows
XP Professional. I have a need to network them and
installed a direct cat5 cable connection yesterday.

On the DELL I started the network connection wizard and
followed the instructions through to:

* insert my XP CD in the Desktop (2000)
* perform additional tasks
* set up home network

I received a failure message stating the CD would only
work with various 98 options and XP - but not Windows 2000.

Can anyone please advise the next steps?

Thank you..... Andy

See the following link on how to set up networking on a Windows 2000 computer. You
may also need to use the same user logon name/account on each computer for it to work
properly [though the XP machine may be set up for simple file sharing which uses
guest authentication]. Also be sure that the XP built in firewall is disabled when
trying to use it on the lan, though you need some sort of firewall protection for
your network and a cable/dsl router is adequate. --- Steve

Steve,

Thank you - I'll have a go later.

Cheers,
