How do I set up fixed column headings?

I would like to establish fixed column headings that stay at the top
regardless of how the columns are sorted. I'm currently typing headings in
the row for line one and then using the freeze frame to keep the headings
visible at the top as I scroll down. I've also used the freeze frame to keep
the first column with my business names visible as I scroll across. The
freeze frame method works until I use a different sorting criteria. For
example, when I sort by the "city column" the headings across the top become
displaced to the middle of my document. I have not been able to find a
solution through the help menu or my Excel handbook. Can anyone tell me how
to solve this problem? Many thanks! MaryAnn

When doing the sort, check the option box at "My List Has" > "Header Row"

The top row will not be included in the sort.

BTW.......it is Freeze "pane" not "frame"

Hello Gord,
Thanks for your response. When I click on the sort icon, or choose "sort"
from the pull down menu, it does not give me the option box with "My list has
header row." The only option I get is to expand the selection. Any tips on
how to access the option box?

Thank you,
MaryAnn

First of all....do not use the Sort Icon. It is unreliable in deciding which
area to sort.

Select all the columns together then Data>Sort.

You should not get the "expand selection" message if you have selected the
entire region.

If you do, just click OK anyway to get to the next dialog which will have the
"My list has" options.
