I was "forced" to upgrade from Access 97 to 2003 and now when I put the
shortcut on my desktop for each of the databases I use regularly it opens
Microsoft Access and the individual database. So, now I have 8 links open
instead of just 4.

How do I open just the database and not have the program open too?
Currently if I open "Database A" it also opens Database A: Database A (2002
- 2003 File Format)

Actually, you always load word first, and THEN open the document.

Acutely, you always load excel first, and THEN open the excel document.

And,t he same goes for ms-access. So, this idea, or concept that you don't
load the application first is a wrong assuming, and ms-access has worked
this way for about 15 years now.

It needs pointing out that when you click on a excel, word, or ms-access
file, then the appcatiln does in fact load, and THEN the docuemnt is loaded.
So, the behavour you talking about is normal.

Perhaps you are taking about the windows task bar that appears at the bottom
of your screen?

This can setting can be changed via

tools->options->view tab

Simply un-check the
"windows in taskbar"
