What do you mean by a "one-time" indent? If you mean a first-line indent,
then there are two ways:
1. Drag the First-Line Indent marker on the ruler to the desired position.
2. In Format | Paragraph, set the desired first-line indent.
This indent will apply to selected text and to new paragraphs subsequently
created by pressing Enter at the end of a paragraph so formatted. If you
want to apply the indent to every new paragraph however created, you must
modify the style. I do NOT recommend modifying Normal style, however, as
this formatting will carry over to all the styles based on Normal (which is
almost all) and will also affect labels. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NormalVsBodyStyles.htm
