How do I set Calendar to permanently retain appointments?

Outlook 1997/2003 removes appointments set in Calendar after about two
months. I would like to retain this information. Is there a setting that
would allow this?
 
Check your auto-archive settings.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

My experience is that old appointments are retained for about a year. I
don't have autoarchiving enabled.
