I want the entire default background color to be grey. How can I d
this? I don't want to select all the cells and change them grey.
Thanks

Try
A) Select all sheet
B) Format
C) Cells
D) Patterns
E) Select color
Then OK

Do you have some cells already colored and have to work
around those.

Is this for one worksheet, for one workbook.

Is the default for all new workbooks and worksheets
in which case you would want to use a template.

A default of gray would be very unconventional and
more difficult to read.

For certain types of spreadsheets it can be quite
effective to grey out all non-used regions and "No-Fill"
used regions (and those that may be used). Simplest and
most economic* way is to start with a default grey sheet.

*does not bloat the "UsedRange"

I don't take your use of gray to be the same as that of the
original poster who wants a default gray background.

David,

Didn't mean to contradict your comment, which in its full
context I entirely agree with (ie difficult to read on a
gray background).

Only a suggestion as to one usage of a "default gray
background".

Peter
