How do I select multiple items in a drop down list in Excel 2003?

I have a drop down list. I need to select more then 1 item on the list. I'm
not sure how you do that. I have excell 2003. Can anyone help Please!

If this is a data validation dropdown list, you can select multiple
items with some programming. There's an example here:

still not understanding, looked at the example, tried to apply it to mine
with no results. looking for further direction. please.
