When i receive an email with photos they are displayed as attachments. To
view these photos i hace to open up a program such as adobe photoshop. When
I am using outlook express the photos are viewable within the eamil text.

Outlook is geared towards it major user community: business. It is not,
like with Outlook Express, oriented as a personal e-mail client for home
users. Outlook is more secure so it requires the user to commit an action
regarding attachments. If you want the attachment, you'll have to open or
save it separately. Even the plug-in mentioned by Vince appears to open the
attachments separately (and even looks to simply reuse the Windows Picture
and Fax Viewer program but apparently you get to choose the default viewer
app) but it eliminates having to open them one at a time. The images are
not viewed *within* the e-mail but within a separate application outside the
e-mail. If you get a lot of mails and they have several image attachments
then this add-on would be handy. If you get some mails that have only one
attachment then I don't see the point since opening it using the link in the
mail is no more difficult than clicking on a new toolbar button added by
this add-on. You get a 45-day trial period to figure out if it provides the
functionality that you want.

If the originator sends the images inline, then you will see them
inline. If they are sent as attachments, then you will see them that way

thanks for the advice, everyone,i am not up for free trials, I would like to
know what the benefits are, if any, from upgrading from express to outlook,
at the moment I am only being disadvantaged.

If you intend to use Outlook for mail only, then there is very little
benefit, indeed. Only if you wish to make use of the features Outlook has
that are not part of Outlook Express (calendaring, task management, etc.) or
you like the GUI better or how it handles messages better should you
consider switching. By the way, Outlook is NOT an "upgrade" for Outlook
Express. The two applications are not related, other that by their use of
some common DLLs.
