How do I save a Word 2003 doc in ASCII format?

Well, the question is in the subject... I need to know ASAP whether I can do
this and how it's done so I can let my client know if I can type the job.

In the File > Save As dialog, set the Save As Type dropdown to Plain Text
(*.txt). That is "ASCII format".
